We’ll see you very soon!

Dear Festivalgoer,

We’ll be welcoming you to the Festival in less than a week now. Check out the final program here. We will also have some special intimate ‘meet the author events’ and signings. They will be advertised on boards in the Festival Reception Centre. Numbers are limited, so sign up quickly.

When you arrive, make your way to the signposted Festival Reception Centre marquee in the heart of the village, opposite the Settlers Arms Inn. Please bring your confirmation email with you to the festival. On arrival at the Festival Reception you will be issued with your coloured wrist band for your sessions and printed tickets for any other events. There are plenty of friendly volunteers to help you find your way around.

Check out the menus here to see what will be available from Simmone’s Café. There will also be meals available at the Settlers Arms Inn. Don’t worry about not getting your daily dose of caffeine – we will have coffee flowing from the café. And of course we have great wine available from the Highgate Wine Bar.

Our Saturday night events have to be booked in advance, so if you’ve got your ticket but didn’t book for the Simmone Logue dinner ($100), the Settlers Arms Inn indigenous and settler foods banquet ($75) or the Hollywood film night screening of ‘Women he’s undressed’ with dinner ($40), it’s not too late. Make your payment into our bank account (details below) and send an email with your name and booking to enquiries@stalbanswritersfestival.com.au  We have suggested people dress up in glamorous Hollywood style for the film night. Even if you’re not staying the night, it would be a pity to miss Les Murray reading by the fire after dinner.

Important reminders of the quirks of St Albans

There is no mobile phone coverage in the valley and no wi-fi so you will have a peaceful day. If you are staying overnight, there may be wi-fi in your accommodation but you should check. Mobile phone coverage cuts out at the two ferries that bring you to the valley – Webb’s Creek and Wisemans Ferry. They both run 24 hours a day.

The nearest ATMs to St Albans are at Wisemans Ferry, which is about 20 minutes from St Albans (in the pub and bowling club) but it may be easier to fill up your wallet before leaving home. The nearest petrol station is also at Wisemans Ferry.

If staying overnight, bring a torch, as street lighting is limited. Pack a raincoat, umbrella and gumboots in case of rain but we have ordered beautiful spring weather.

See you very soon!
